FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Empty Parking Lot Becomes Delray’s Summer Green Market Delray Beach, Fl - June 21, 2010- The Delray Art Collective will be making use of 3 empty parking lots on NE 4 Ave in downtown Delray. NE 4 th Avenue from Atlantic to NE 2nd was double dipping last Tuesday at the City Commision . Not only was it included into the Pineapple Grove Arts District but it also got approval to host a summer green market at the corner of NE 1st St and NE 4th Ave. Starting on June 26 and every Saturday until October, vendors with produce, plants, bakery items will appear at 8AM and be a part of the neighborhood until 1PM. Then the parking lot will revert back to its intended use for the office building on Federal Hwy. Occupants of a small cottage, being used as an art studio, have been determined to “repurpose” this location for almost a year. An original plan called for artists and craftsmen to use the space for showing and selling their work. The Village ArtsMart was created for that purpose and was well received by local artisans. Unfortunately, the venue and timing was not favorable to bringing in the shopping public. To add to the experience, the organizers have now included the green market vendors who have few choices during the summer to sell their product. After the approval at the City Commions meeting on Tues, Mayor Duffey added that he was happy to see that the summer locals were being offered a marketplace on Saturday mornings. The ArtsMart is still a vision of the Delray Art Collective and will continue to be offered to those artists that have difficulties finding a showplace and opportunities to sell their creative work. But “we will find a good mix that will enhance the experience and provide a place to start your weekend Downtown” according to organizer , Ann Fulton.
