West Palm Beach's Surfer Blood is giving back to the Florida coastline that in many ways is the band's identity. Drenched with beach imagery formed on local shores and uplifting indie-rock tropes, Astro Coast earned the band a national following (and New Times' Best Album of 2010) and significant cachet as a touring act. Still, the guys haven't lost sight of where they came from, having recently announced a benefit show to help repair the environmental damage caused by the BP oil spill catastrophe.

The Oil.Spill.Benefit, presented by TheHoneyComb.com at Propaganda, also showcases three local acts who can match altruism with artistry just as effectively: synth-rock act the Jameses (singer Dan McHugh sometimes wears a manatee T-shirt), the psych-rock splendor of the Dewars, and Chill Pillars' garage rock blasts. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Florida Wildlife Federation. As more details for the event unfold, New Times will post them at blogs.BrowardPalmBeach.com/CountyGrind.
