SoFla’s Haunts Will Host Some Smokin’ Firecracker Displays

Pine Island Park will bring in the Fourth with a family-filled pool, bounce houses, a climbing wall, country band Shadow Creek, and free birthday cake. Here in Davie, America’s independence will be symbolized with a World War I and II military tank, jeep, and equipment show. Shadow Creek will perform at 6 p.m., and the fireworks will go off at 9 p.m. at Pine Island Park (3800 SW 92nd Ave., Davie). Free. Visit davie-fl.gov.

A sand sculpture contest will have Delray Beach residents trekking to their beach in the wee hours of the morning (the contest starts at 8 a.m. and runs until noon). Delray Beach’s beach at Atlantic Avenue and A1A will also offer a 9 p.m. Grucci fireworks showdown. At 4 p.m., those not wanting to waste the whole day vegging in the sand can join the patriotic bike and scooter parade — extra points if you can muster wearing a white wig in this heat. Free. Visit downtowndelraybeach.com.

At Vista View Park, you’ll get a panoramic view of various firework displays from across the county. This is Broward County’s highest man-made point, providing fireworks-watching enthusiasts the opportunity to marvel at the light shows of Davie, Sunrise, Miramar, and Pembroke Pines and the chance to also see Hollywood’s and Fort Lauderdale’s.

For the Fort Lauderdale experience, hang out at the dive bars along A1A, making free pilgrimages over to the beach for the water-balloon toss and hula-hoop contest at SE Fifth Street and A1A. Lahinch Mob will perform at 6 p.m., and the fireworks burst at 9 p.m. from a barge off A1A and Las Olas Boulevard. Visit fortlauderdale.gov. The alternative to watching them on the beach? Try the Terrace at Exit 66 (219 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). DJ J. Felix will provide the tunes for the 8 p.m. viewing party. But, if interested, the best use of your bucks (cover of $10 after 2 p.m.) is to spend the day at Exit 66's pool, where DJs Johnny the Boy and M Dot will spin. Visit exitsixtysixnightclub.com.
