Get Your Zouk On

Sometimes you want music to work out all the stress and angst that built up throughout your day. And, sometimes, you just want to zouk. And party you will, when internationally famous French-Caribbean band Kassav celebrates 30 years of making zouk music by performing at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Fillmore Miami Beach (1700 Washington Ave., Miami Beach). A fusion of Haitian kompa, Dominican merengue, Puerto Rican salsa, Trinidadian calypso, and West African makossa, anchored by funky bass, rock guitar, big-band brass, and countryside percussion, zouk music is meant to move, so much so that the Fillmore has actually made room for an open dance floor in front of the stage. Tickets cost $40. Call 800-745-3000, or visit ticketmaster.com.
Sat., July 10, 8 p.m., 2010
