Clash of the Young Titans

The Washington NationalsStephen Strasburg has burst unto the MLB scene with all the pomp and circumstance reserved for special sure-fire future Hall of Famers. And the hype is well-deserved. Strasburg features a fastball that averages 98 mph and throws a filthy 92-mph changeup. He has also shown that he isn’t afraid of the big stage, striking out ten batters in just his third big-league start in front of a near-capacity crowd that included Barack Obama. It’s safe to say Strasburg is baseball’s next big thing already here. It’s an event whenever Strasburg starts a game, and in the city that loves events, his presence at Sun Life Stadium (2269 Dan Marino Blvd., Miami Gardens) this weekend should be no exception. Of course, the Florida Marlins have their own rookie überstud sensation in outfielder Mike Stanton, who coincidentally made his big-league debut the same night Strasburg made his. In spite of how embarrassing both teams are to their respective fan bases, watching Stanton face down Strasburg qualifies as must-be-there baseball. The series starts Friday night. First pitch is at 7:10, and tickets start at $9. Visit florida.marlins.mlb.com.
