R & R With DJ Sensitive Side

“Tuesdays at Monterey Club” should not be kept a secret. South Floridians, it would be hard to stumble upon another joint that offers such great tunes every week. Location: The Monterey Club is deserted in the middle of nowhere — AKA South Federal Highway on the way to the Fort Lauderdale Airport. You’ll know it by the hot rods kept outside, the roller rink to its left, or the fact that it’s attached to a tattoo shop. Vibe: The rockabilly/retro-themed bar has animal-print rugs and cushy coaches that line the walls. Buzz: No liquor, but the prime selection of 35-plus beers, as well as cider and wine, will please.

Tuesdays: Your resident DJs will be Dee Jay Sensitive Side and KEMS. But Mr. Sensitive Side makes sure each week has a unique style, so expect guest DJs and live performances from local artists -- think Otto Von Schirach and Bleubird. It could be a night dedicated to 45s called “Love and a 45” or a night of music focused on SoFla’s instrumental musicians called “Beat Garage.” Nights could include album-release parties and/or beat boxing. The music played? Funk, reggae, soul, ’50s and ’60s R&R, and instrumental. It's from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. each Tuesday, there’s no cover, and the Monterey Club (2608 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale) offers free wi-fi and pool. Call 954-598-1887, or visit themontereyclub.net.
Tuesdays, 9 p.m., 2010
