Full Steam Ahead!

We’re going to help dress you for the Steampunk’d party at Club X-it. OK, tap into your science-fiction mindset. We’ll break it down simply: Using the aesthetics of Victorian romance, steampunks take modern technology and then interpret it 1800s style. So, take a gown, corset, coat, petticoat, suit with vest, military-inspired garment, and/or ruffley thing. Add those period accessories: timepieces, parasols, goggles, and ray guns. Now add modern accessories: Make a suit covered in camaras or attach an iPod to a leather cuff.

This party is brought to you by the ElectroLust team — the same folks who organize “kinky vampire fetish raves” and “Halloween play parties,” so dressing the theme is flexible. The crowd will also sport whatever they feel like wearing: fishnet stockings, black angel wings, kilts, Technicolor pigtails, and chains and leashes. Yes, a guy’s going to be pulled by his balls via leash. You can go ahead and sport clothespins if you feel like being pinched. There’s old-fashioned romance involved in the steampunk movement... so perhaps folks were way kinky back when, or perhaps this is what ElectroLust adds to it. Because inside Club X-it, inside the dark, stone-colored walls and the billowing cloud of steam, in addition to the multiple ballrooms where DJs will spin industrial dance/techno tunes and burlesque dancers will perform, there will be toys and play equipment spread throughout.

The shindig starts at 9 p.m. at Club X-It, AKA “South Florida’s Fully Equipped Cyber Sexual Electro Playground,” located at 219 N. 21st Ave. in Hollywood. There will be a DIY fashion show at 2 a.m., and the best steampunk gear/outfits will win a $100 bar tab. Other prizes will also be given out.
