The Salvation of Dolphin Nation

From Miami Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland asking potential draftee Dez Bryant if his mother was a crack-addled prostitute to several players getting busted for things like DUI and alleged domestic violence to wide receiver Brian Hartline’s pickup being found abandoned on I-75 after a hit and run, this summer has been a long and ugly one for the Fins. We also saw Zach Thomas retire and watched helplessly as Jason Taylor signed with our most bitter rival, the New York Jets.

Nothing redeems offseason misadventures like actual, real-life football. Sure, this Saturday’s meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Sun Life Stadium (2269 Dan Marino Blvd., Miami Gardens) is just a meaningless preseason game — but it’s football! Watch as the Dolphins’ next generation — rookies Jared Odrick and Koa Misi, newly acquired linebacker Karlos Dansby, and Pro Bowl free-agent pickup Brandon Marshall — seek salvation in the end zone. The 2010 season begins Saturday at 7 p.m., and tickets start at $45. Visit miamidolphins.com.
