Let’s dust off an oft-quoted nugget of feminist truth from the mouth of Lake Worth-born Robin Morgan: Sisterhood is powerful, people. It’s quite possibly the only reason to explain a dastardly phenomenon like the Red Hat Society or the perennial possibility that at any given moment during a 24-hour period, you can find an episode of The Golden Girls with a switch of your TV clicker (Cheesecake! Group hugs! What’s not to love?). But as much as it is powerful, it’s also complicated, confusing, and sometimes painful. In Alma de Groen’s play Wicked Sisters, the role of female friendships — specifically ones formed among women in their 50s -— is examined in a script that is both lighthearted and humorous at times and reflective and morally wrought at others. Bring the GF, the BF, or the BFF to a performance: Shows are at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays at the Women’s Theatre Project at Sixth Star Studios (505 NW First Ave., Fort Lauderdale). It runs until August 29. Tickets cost $15 for students, $25 for adults. Call 866-811-4111, or visit womenstheatreproject.com.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Aug. 12. Continues through Aug. 29, 2010
