The last time the Florida Marlins faced the Washington Nationals, rookie outfielder Mike Stanton was busy using Nats pitchers as his own personal batting practice. In a three-game series earlier this month, Stanton collected eight hits and six RBIs, including going five-for-five in game two. He became the second-youngest player to end a game with five hits and at least four RBIs and joined the likes of Gary Sheffield, Miguel Cabrera, Hanley Ramirez, Dan Uggla, and Juan Pierre as Marlins players to record a five-hit game. A pretty impressive list, to be sure. But make no mistake, the 20-year-old Stanton isn't finished ravaging the record books. The kid has blazing speed and a sniper's rifle for an arm and can rake like Paul Bunyan, as that monster shot over the left-field wall in that five-hit game proved. Yes, this town boasts LeBron James and Dwyane Wade and Brandon Marshall. But if you want to see a star in the making, come watch Stanton (before the Marlins trade him away). The Nationals return for more abuse at the hands of Mike Stanton this Wednesday at Sun Life Stadium (2269 Dan Marino Blvd.). First pitch is at 7:10, and tickets start at $9.
