Shaka, Brah!

Cinema Paradiso (503 SE Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale), with its endless film offerings, was founded by those who brought us, according to Guinness World Records, the longest film festival in the world: the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, better-known as FLIFF. But the art-house theater has never featured a festival dedicated to Florida's major attraction -- the beach. That changes this weekend when it hosts the "Annual Cinema Paradiso Surf Fest."

Over three days starting Friday, the theater will feature surf classics like Bruce Brown's Endless Summer and Endless Summer 2. But attendees will also be able to choose among excellent, lesser-known works such as Fiberglass and Megapixels, which depicts the life of professional surf photographers; and Slippery When Wet, Brown's first film. Other options, 14 in all, include Blue Horizon, National Geographic: Extreme, Ocean Tribe, and Occy: The Occumentary. A daily alternating assortment of food, drink, and live entertainment will be presented without cover in the courtyard. However, admission per film costs $5 (two for one if you come in your bathing suit). Special guest Billabong team rider Ryan Briggs will be on hand Sunday to screen Billabong Presents: Frothing.
