Calling All Actors

To be on TV or not to be on TV. That’s the question facing Andrew Rally, the protagonist of the play I Hate Hamlet. Rally is caught between a chaste girlfriend, the ghost of legendary actor John Barrymore, and a Hollywood executive. His girlfriend and Barrymore’s ghost want him to take a stage role as Hamlet. Hollywood wants him on TV.

Put yourself in his shoes, or the shoes of one of the play’s other six characters, if you’d like to audition for I Hate Hamlet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Tamarac Theatre (7143 Pine Island Road, Tamarac). They’re Playing Our Song, by Neil Simon, is casting at the same time, same place. In this two-character show, a composer teams up with a lyricist, and an erotic friction develops as a Greek chorus sings their inner monologues. For that audition, bring 16 bars of an up-tempo song and 16 bars of a ballad, with CD.

You can also catch auditions for the two shows on Saturday at noon. Call Tamarac Theatre at 954-726-7898, or visit tamaractheatreofperformingarts.org.
Thu., Sept. 9, 6:30 p.m., 2010
