Outsider Art (Literally)

Fall in Fort Lauderdale — barring the occasional property-pulverizing hurricane — brings the perfect weather for outdoor events. And for the 23rd year now, the Las Olas Art Fair is a good excuse for cruising Las Olas Boulevard on foot, checking out the many styles and media on display. This year features more than 150 artists, with each artist on hand to discuss (and sell) his or her works. That means you can ask Urla Buckwald about her use of eco-friendly paint and reclaimed vegetation. Or get the backstory on Vince Pompei’s silverware art so you can impress future guests. (A lifelong fascination with construction or a comment on Uri Geller? Find out.) The fair runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. between SE Sixth and 11th avenues. Admission is free, but the art is not; bring some spending cash. Call 954-472-3755, or visit artfestival.com.
Sat., Oct. 23, 10 a.m.; Sun., Oct. 24, 10 a.m., 2010
