Believe it or not, Halloween originated from a religious holiday — which is interesting considering that over the years Halloween’s turned every city into a whorehouse. Luckily some cultures do better at keeping traditions intact, such as the Mexican Dia de los Muertos, or So before the streets of downtown Fort Lauderdale turn into an adult candy store of tits and ass, you should check out, or better yet, dress up and join in for the Day of the Dead Skeleton Processional. Then you can rest your aching bones in the FAT Village Arts District with a full-blown celebration of art, music, and puppets. And this is a family-friendly event, so try to make sure your skeleton isn’t showing too much flesh. The dead start marching at 4:45 p.m. from the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art (1 E. Las Olas Blvd.). For more details and the full lineup of deathly events, check out dayofthedeadflorida.com.
