There are no rules on Halloween: If it’s on a Sunday, you are still doing it up. But don’t commit any crimes — unless they are ones that follow the protocol of what is expected at Zombie Prom. See, for Halloween, our friendly neighborhood joint on U.S. 1 south of downtown Fort Lauderdale, the Monterey Club, is bringing back its highly successful zombie soiree. Sure, 88 days ago, zombies went rampant across the dance floor, did the shimmy atop the animal-print rugs, and shot pool at the Monterey. Now, it’s Halloween. Zombie prom is the theme, but remember, no rules. Wear your Wolverine, Sexy Pirate, or Charlie Brown costume. If you’ve already partied and worn your Halloween costume — twice — you have three choices: You can (a) get ready for the third: Wash it, put it back on. Or don’t wash it, that’s the zombie smell after all; (b) make a last-minute evil-dead costume: Tear your clothes and dress in blood, smear that blood, and then put on some more blood; or (c) neither of the above because you already happen to be a zombie prom queen for Halloween. DJ Sensitive Side, who creates a feel-right music night we never like to miss every Tuesday at Monterey; DJ Mike Ramirez of Radio-Active Records, who supplies you with a cornucopia of tunes that only a manager and buyer for a record store could; and DJ Stace, Monterey’s house DJ, will provide the score to the night. But kicking off the prom will be Davie punk band Betty Had to Boop. Zombie Prom starts at 9 p.m. at the Monterey Club (2608 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale). There will be prizes for costumes.
