Chances are if you logged time in the teenaged punk-rock contingent, works by artist Raymond Pettibon hung with enough double-sided Scotch tape to keep them from vibrating off your walls as the Circle Jerks’ “World Up My Ass” blasted through your speakers. Serving as visual accompaniment to the soundtrack of the Los Angeles’ early-’80s punk scene, Pettibon’s works often tapped the same vein of angst-ridden nihilism as the bands he created fliers for. Fast-forward some 30 years and Pettibon is now an internationally recognized figure, but he continues to create in similar circles, including a recent stint as the subject in a music video for Circle Jerks founder Keith Morris’ latest band, Off! Tonight, FAU exhibits the works of Pettibon as it presents “Raymond Pettibon: The Punk Years, 1978-86” at the Schmidt Gallery (777 Glades Road, Boca Raton.) The exhibit includes museum- quality prints, album covers, zines, skateboard decks, programs of screenings, music, and lectures that delve into California punk culture. Programs are free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through January 22. Visit fau.edu/galleries.
