Cosmos to the Bubble: Travulous’ Personal Voyage

Back in July, the downtown Fort Lauderdale art space the Bubble held a memorable fashion show as part of a Red Eye satellite party. Several hundred people showed up to see local fashion designers and artists showcase their work. Models twirled in front of judges, and local musicians provided the soundtrack to the festivities. But it was the interplanetary glam-fab superstar Travulous, an oddball performer who channels Ziggy Stardust and preaches far-out themes such as love and open-mindedness, who controlled hearts and minds. Well, the Bubble has brought him back to spread some more cosmic cheer for the holidays through a theatrical medium the venue has never tried before: the musical. Details are sketchy, but we hear that in addition to David Bowie oddities, there are some greasers from an Elvis-inspired planet participating. We think it may be something like Grease meets Labyrinth.

But that’s not all. The Bubble will also host musicians like psychobilly punk band the Green Mantles and Sweet Bronco’s beguiling frontman Chris Horgan. A holiday market will feature at least 29 vendors, including yoga-inspired apparel brand Time Peace, art by Coma Girl, and artist Rachel DeJohn’s “Peace Owls and Other Lovely Things.” If you want to avoid a traumatizing trip to Sawgrass or giving a friend a thoughtless gift from Old Navy, grab some arty knickknacks made by our homegrown creative types.
