Crafts never really go out of style. In dark times, the craft industry lurks at the edges of our social awareness as being the sole province of grannies and Girls Scouts. But the truth is, the crafties are true artists, seamstresses, painters, haberdashers, sculptors, and knitters. And nowadays theyre often covered in tattoos and piercings. Maybe its the sad job market encouraging young entrepreneurs; maybe its the rise of crafty sites like etsy.com which make selling ones wares easier; or maybe it is simply time for crafties to rise up and to take to their rightful place. Whatever it is, crafts are cool and if you dont believe us, find out for yourself. From 1 to 6 p.m., the Indie Craft Bazaar will take over Cinema Paradiso on Saturday. Ever socially conscious, the crafties will also be collecting pet supplies to be donated to local animal shelters, and donating will earn you two extra tickets for the days raffle. Admission is $4, and the first 100 guests will receive a sweet swag bag. So get a henna tattoo, make a DIY ornament, enjoy a vegan cupcake, and join the craftastic revolution. Cinema Paradiso is located at 503 SE Sixth St. in Fort Lauderdale. Visit getupandcraft.com, or email info@getupandcraft.com.
