At New Times, we pride ourselves on bringing you the very best in party debauchery. Never is this more true than on New Year’s Eve. (We had an entire guide devoted to it.) But we recognize that drunken high jinks and half-naked shot girls are not for everyone — especially the kiddies. Never let it be said that we don’t serve all of our readers equally. Downtown Delray Beach hosts a nonalcoholic, family-friendly New Year’s Eve event called First Night. From 4 p.m. to midnight, you can safely parade your underagers, grandparents, AA-ers, and other adult nondrinkers up and down Atlantic Avenue. There will be sober activities including crafts and games at 24 restaurants and businesses along the avenue, as well as food and entertainment. All this near-beer, sparkling-cider-type fun is yours for $10 a person — though it’s $15 if you wait until December 31. Get your First Night Button by visiting the 100-foot tree on Atlantic Avenue and Swinton Avenue, the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce at 64 SE Fifth Avenue, or the Delray Beach Public Library at 100 W. Atlantic Ave. Visit downtowndelraybeach.com/first-night, or call 561-243-7200.
Fri., Dec. 31, 4 p.m., 2010
