“All right, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up.” Actress Gloria Swanson delivered this line in the 1950s film Sunset Boulevard, which marked a special point in film history also known as the “Golden Age”: a time of bright lights and big stars. Thursday at the Norton Museum of Art’s monthly “Art After Dark” event, travel back through the magic of photography, film, and music to this groundbreaking era in Hollywood for “Scene on the Silver Screen.” The amazing collection of vintage photographs “Made in Hollywood: Photographs From the John Kobal Foundation,” will offer a glimpse into Hollywood’s world of glitz, glamour, and intrigue. The exhibit will showcase the talent of notorious photographers who worked in Hollywood’s studios from 1920 to 1960 such as George Hurrell and Clarence Sinclair Bull, who captured the world’s favorite motion picture moments like Boris Karloff for Frankenstein, Audrey Hepburn for Funny Girl, and even Alfred Hitchcock on set with the MGM lion. In addition to the exhibit, attendees will continue on their journey back in time with the jazz sounds of SAMM and a special viewing of the classic film My Man Godfrey. The all-ages event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Norton, located on 1451 S. Olive Ave. in West Palm Beach. Tickets cost $5 to $12. Visit norton.org, or call 561-832-5196.
