A band with a big following in New Orleans is sure to bring something solid to any town it visits on tour, and Galactic is no exception. For nearly two decades, the NOLA-bred funk outfit, which incorporates hip-hop, rock, and electronic flavors into its signature sound, has been blowing roofs off hometown joints like Tipitina's as well as spots around the country and overseas. Galactic is a beloved act in the jam-band world and has kept thousands dancing into the wee hours at Bonnaroo more than once.
The New York Times included "Heart of Steel," a song off last year's Ya-Ka-May, on its list of the top ten pop songs of 2010. The song features a guest appearance from Irma Thomas, who joins a long list of big-name New Orleans musicians — Dirty Dozen Brass Band, George Porter, and the Neville Brothers, to name a few — who have gotten together with Galactic onstage and in the studio over the years. Corey Glover (Living Colour) and Corey Henry (Rebirth Brass Band) will join the band for the Revolution gig.
