Keeping the Lights on at the Art Center

In South Florida, most events for young professionals involve smoky clubs, pulsing music, and DJs from the Jersey Shore. Last year, a new organization came into being called Ghost Light Society. Its aim is to bring together young professionals, between 21 and 45, who have an interest in supporting the arts in South Florida. Yes, they want your money, but to be fair, so do the clubs and Pauly D, and there’s not much art going on there. Memberships start at $200 and go up, with member benefits, like priority seating, increasing the price. Ghost Light Society celebrates its one-year anniversary with a reception from 6 to 7:45 p.m. and a performance of Les Miserables afterward at 8 p.m. Saturday, all at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale). There’s a special incentive for members who join or renew by Thursday: one free ticket to that showing of Les Mis. If you’re interested, visit browardcenter.org, email ghostlight@browardcenter.org, or call 954-468-2681.
