More About
Plenty has been said about Mugs (2671 E. Oakland Park Blvd., Fort Lauderdale) in reference to the space it occupies. In a previous life, it was an upscale restaurant, and the remains of that are still present visually and represented in the menu. For that, the happy result is the lighting is too attractive and the food too exotic for it to be a traditional sports bar. And, with the venue change, came a staff thats superfriendly and a comfortable vibe, making it one of the best places to get tipsy during a game. So, when the Heat plays the Sacramento Kings today, a Tuesday, you can eat escargots ($8.95) or a legitimately good steak and frites dish ($14.95) thanks to that lingering luxe menu. But, akin to the sports-bar feel, theres also the two-for-one happy hour (4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday) to help you pregame or the ten types of $3 tacos available on Tuesdays. Beer is always modestly priced, especially if you get buckets: $10 domestic, $15 import, and pitchers range from $5 to $12. Theres also the Mugs Bucket, available daily: five domestics and wings for $15.95. Youre surrounded on all sides but not obnoxiously so by TV screens. If youre the easily distracted type and the Three Musketeers (Bosh, Wade, and LeBron, of course) just arent doing it for you, Tuesday evening is also poker night, and theres always Wii, free pool, and darts.
