Experimental hip-hop artist Astronautalis finally has a band, but it will sound nothing like the Roots. After seven years of relentless touring in the U.S. and abroad, armed only with a mic and a laptop, the man known to his mother as Andrew Charles Bothwell has upgraded to full-fledged live act. While Astro has enlisted seasoned musicians from Polyphonic Spree, Radical Face, and Midlake in the studio since his debut, the financial limitations of DIY touring have kept him small until now.

Also 9 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Collide Factory, 541 NW First Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Click here.
The full lineup, which originally formed for a Clash tribute at a Halloween show in Portland, Maine, is comprised of a drummer, guitarist, keys/button pusher, and of course Astro on vocals. Mr. Bothwell's folksy storytelling and avant-garde songwriting were already intense and engaging as a one-man show, so this should be bonkers.
This run of 27 shows in 29 days includes Minneapolis MC Sims of the deep hip-hop collective Doomtree. Catch the whole happy family along with Fort Lauderdale's own Alexander for two South Florida appearances, first at Propaganda in Lake Worth on Friday and Saturday at the newly established Collide Factory in Lauderdale's FAT Village art district.
