Cos It’s My Hatsume, and I’ll Play If I Want To

With the exception of Halloween, comic cons, and ren fairs, there aren’t many public gatherings where you can play the kind of dress-up that will garner you questionable stares or threats of Baker Acts. This weekend, you’ll have another opportunity to let your geek fly high and proud at Morikami Museum & Japanese Garden’s Hatsume Fair. For the 32nd year in a row, South Florida’s most Zen spot is blossoming into a colorful festival that celebrates the “first bud of spring” and all things Japanese, from the ancient tradition of Taiko drumming to the modern art of anime, complete with a cosplay contest. If you’d rather blend in with the crowd, there’ll also be three stages of entertainment, the Kirin Beer Garden, and even bounce houses to keep you occupied. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $6 for children. The Hatsume Fair runs Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens (4000 Morikami Park Road, Delray Beach). Visit morikami.org.
March 19-20, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., 2011
