From Playboy to Cowboy

Crazy for You is classic Broadway. The multiple Tony Award-winning musical is young — it debuted in 1992 and ran for more than a thousand shows — but the plot and music hark back to the culture of the 1930s. In the spotlight is a misbehaving, Depression-era playboy, who escapes New York and his suffocating banking family for a broke mining town in Nevada and there falls in love with a spunky girl named Polly.

The plot is loosely based on Girl Crazy, George Gershwin’s 1930 musical, and it revives some of his greatest standards: “I’ve Got Rhythm,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me,” and “Shall We Dance,” to name a few. The plot twists and tap-dancing go down at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre (1001 E. Indiantown Road, Jupiter). It runs through April 17. Tickets cost $43 to $60. Call 561-575-2223, or visit jupitertheatre.org.
