A Less Drunken Bus Loop

Florida has history. Sure, Fort Lauderdale’s only 100 years old, but other places — places you didn’t realize existed in South Florida — appear to be just as old. Everyone knows about St. Augustine, the Flagler Museum, and Hemingway’s House. People used to know about the Stranahan House, but then it got hidden behind a multilevel parking garage and a Cheesecake Factory. So Fort Lauderdale has an old house and that spring break movie with Connie Francis. Now, up in Delray Beach, you can take the Narrated Bus Tour of Historic Delray Beach and see local sites every fourth Saturday of the month.

Presented by the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History, tours depart promptly at 11 a.m. from the MLFH’s new location at the Boynton Beach Mall between Sears and Toojay’s (801 N. Congress Ave., Boynton Beach). The $15 admission (free for the 18-and-under crowd) will also buy you an hour in the museum before the tour and a coffee and pastry breakfast. During your narrated tour, you will see such sites as the Sandoway House, built in 1936; the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church built in 1929; and the growing downtown Delray area, including the Pineapple Grove arts district. To ensure a spot on the bus, reserve your seat at delraybeachbustours.org or by emailing tour@delraybeachbustours.org or calling 561-243-2662.
