Glutton Up

OK, let’s break it down, because a ticket to anything costing 100 bucks seems like too much at this point — but, somehow, paying that to go to a street festival dealing in nothing but food and booze at least tempts us to consider going. Well, actually, we will be there. If you do happen to make it to Las Olas Boulevard, the street for richies and their expensive art, meals, and clothes, we’re asking you to find us. When you ask yourself: What is over yonder there — roped off? I smell cupcakes!, you’ve found our New Times Cupcake Battle. It’s hosted by our food blog, CleanPlateCharlie.com. You, along with our judges, will get to eat mini cupcakes; your vote will count toward the “Fan Favorite.”

But there are a few ways we’d go about it, if we paid to enter the Las Olas Food & Wine Fest. If you’re tossing over 100 rolled-up singles to purchase a ticket, you’re buying yourself a night of gluttony. Congratulations! As a glutton, don’t count calories; don’t count drinks. From 7:30 to 10 p.m., devour everything in sight. You must eat treats from all of the 60 South Florida restaurants that’ll be present. You must hit up the Bombay Sapphire Lounge, the 45 tables of wine and microbrew, and the wine bars at both major intersections. There was once a time that all the guilt-free convincing one needed was to know it went to charity. Well, that still holds true: Your dough benefits the American Lung Association in Florida. There will also be live music. It all happens on Las Olas Boulevard in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-524-4657, or visit lasolaswineandfood.com.
