"Take Action Tour" at Revolution 4/30

Nothing like a little good-doing to offset the sex-and-drugs image of touring rock 'n' roll bands. For almost a full decade now, Hopeless Records has been fighting this good fight by sending out its "Take Action Tour" around the country, alongside a compilation on its own nonprofit label, Sub City, to raise additional funds. The tour and comp rotate a cause each year, but it's always something close to benefiting the kids who turn out to the shows.

A lot has changed in the world and in music since the first "TAT" hit the road. (Just consider the original lineup, which included long-gone acts like the Promise Ring and Snapcase and even Poison the Well, Jimmy Eat World, and a fledgling Le Tigre.) One thing that hasn't changed, though, is that, honestly, teens are having sex, and adults are doing a poor job of educating them about it.

Enter Sex, Etc., this year's "TAT" beneficiary. Based at Rutgers University, the organization aims to get the frank talk out there through an online community, a national magazine, and other information resources. This year, Silverstein, Bayside, Polar Bear Club, the Swellers, and Texas in July have all signed on to play in support.
