In America, it’s never enough just to eat a burger. It has to be the biggest or the juiciest or the weirdest or the most fattening burger ever created. A system has been devised to assure that the ground, bovine flesh we are about to masticate has been rigorously scrutinized and put through a gauntlet of tests. To certify what? Its mostestness. First came Kosher rabbis. Then came the USDA. Not good enough, we said. Because our burgers cannot just be good. They must taste like victory! To the Burger Battle! Presented by Publix Apron’s Cooking School, the “Second Annual Riverwalk Trust Burger Battle” will pit beef against chuck in a grueling match of taste. Which of the 14 ground-round gladiators will triumph? Will it be the virtually vowelless rookie Rok:Brgr? Or will it be that bastion of beef, Morton’s Steakhouse? Or will last year’s champion, Georgie’s Alibi, tell a tale of taste that will convince the judges? Come to the Riverside Hotel Lawn (620 E. Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale) from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday to find out. Your $40 admission (paid in advance at goriverwalk.com) will get you not only three drink tickets and all the burger samples you can eat but it will also benefit the Riverwalk Trust.
