Grunge Away

The ’90s were a transitional period. We were coming down from our cocaine high in the ’80s and settling into a new world that was relatively peaceful and prosperous. President Bill Clinton’s biggest problem was keeping his wandering eye for full-figured interns in check. The nation’s biggest crisis was that there weren’t enough AOL phone numbers for our 56k modem to call into. That and your mom won’t stop accidentally picking up the phone, causing you to disconnect and hear the dreaded “Goodbye!”

Compared to the post-9/11 world we live in, the ’90s were awesome. Helping you relive that great decade is Sweat Records and the Vagabond (30 NE 14th St., Miami), who have brought to you the annual ’80s Prom around Thanksgiving. But this time around, it’s time to sport your favorite kinderwhore or Contempo Casuals attire, because the two indie forces are bringing you “ ’90s Homecoming.” There is no preparty matchup between football rivals, but there will be music provided by the city’s purveyors of cool. Here’s hoping the playlist ranges from grunge to bubblegum pop to ska revival. The party starts Sunday at 10 p.m. Tickets cost $10. Call 305-379-0508, or visit thevagabondmiami.com.
