You’re curious. It’s OK. You’ve been to a few meets now, seen some action. You find yourself asking questions. “Where do these women come from? How did they get so intense? What do they do in their spare time?” The first two are anyone’s guess. As to the third, they wrestle in Jell-O. Duh. What else would you do if you were a member of the Gold Coast Derby Grrls? What better activity for strong, dominant, physical women to engage in on a casual Friday night out with the ladies? But it’s not easy to find the sort of upscale, liberally minded establishment that’s willing to host a bout of gelatinized tussling. After all, the red flavor is really sticky. Luckily, Boston Johnny’s (2120 Dixie Highway, Hollywood), a cozy bar nestled up against the train tracks, is the perfect location Friday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. And if, by chance, you found yourself thinking, “Maybe I could do derby. Those girls don’t look that tough,” here’s your chance to find out. For a small donation, you too can find yourself sticky from head to toe, smelling like cherries, and pinned between the muscular thighs of a woman who bashes other women for a living.
