Eclipse of a Lifetime

Ages of the Moon is a one-act play set on the front porch of an obscure countryside home, where whisky shots soon lead to gunshots as two depressed men in their mid-60s sip bourbon and grumble about their weary lives while waiting up to watch a solar eclipse. The longtime friends reflect, rant, and ridicule each other but reconcile before the lunar phenomenon occurs. Nagging fears of aging and regret haunt the men throughout this play, which comes from the 67-year-old mind of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Sam Shepard.

Moon premiered in Ireland in February 2009, followed by an off-Broadway production for its American premiere early last year. The same two actors had played the main characters, Ames and Byron, in both the Ireland and U.S. productions. But two Florida-based actors, Dennis Creaghan (Ames) and Gordon McConnell (Byron) will fill the roles when Moon comes to the Mosaic Theater in Plantation on Thursday.

Ages of the Moon shows at the Mosaic Theater (12200 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation) through June 26. Tickets cost $37 for adults, $31 for seniors, and $15 for students. Call 954-577-8243, or visit mosaictheatre.com.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: June 2. Continues through June 26, 2011
