Grammy-nominee Lisa Loeb has done a lot since her cool, dorky mug serenaded us with her breakthrough hit “Stay” in 1994. A reality show on the Food Network, launching her own line of eyewear, having a baby (with husband Roey Hershkovitz, not Dweezil Zappa), and creating children’s books are a few. She also wrote some songs about summer camp that are featured in Camp Kappawanna, a rock musical.

Summer camp can be a place for all sorts of fun experimentation and apparently for family-friendly activities as well. The latter are the focus of the G-rated Kappawanna. The play tells the story of Jenny Jenkins, an adorable 12-year-old grappling with the awkwardness of her adolescence and leaving home on her own for the first time. The audience-interactive play showcases the timeless memories that kids can form at summer camp in a format that makes everyone feel like they’re having fun in the woods. (Apparently Loeb is a big believer in summer camp — beyond the play, Loeb’s “Camp Lisa Foundation” helps underprivileged kids benefit from the summer camp experience.) The cast includes last year’s Melanie Leibner and Jameson Hammond, who will perform alongside rising talents Zach Held, Anne Chamberlain, Lauren Tepper, and Ryan Didato. The production is directed and choreographed by musical-theater veteran Michael Leeds, whose credits include Broadway, off-Broadway, and Broward Stage Door Theatre productions. The show opens at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and runs till Sunday at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts (701 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach). Tickets cost $25. Visit kravis.org.
