In the Name of the Father

Call it the short end of the wishbone or a stereotype left over from June and Ward Cleaver days but for many families — while mom gets relegated to menstruation talks — dad still lays claim to the “big” talk about your first set of wheels. While this can be pop’s proudest moment, it isn’t always yours. Like when you take your dad’s prized 1987 powder-blue Volvo out for a joyride — then as it starts to overheat along I-95, you panic. Pull over! Before it burns into the gravel, melted tires and all! No one? Was that just me? Whoops!

This Father’s Day we — OK, I — can make it up to dad with the First Annual Mizner Park Downtown Drive in Mizner Park (between Palmetto Park Road and Glades Road on Federal Highway, Boca Raton). From 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., dads can stroll along Plaza Real with their offspring and see classic car collections from the 1920s to the 1960s, including postwar European sports and exotic cars by Lou La Vie. Call 561-362-0606, or visit miznerpark.com.
