Still Moving

After suffering concussions and bloody heads on the world’s skate ramps for most of the ’90s, former pro skate boarder and current ANP Magazine editor and artist Ed Templeton may be off his wheels competitively, but he’s still on the road. He’s exhibited extensively abroad and as a southern Californian, he already spends a lot of time in cars. So it makes sense that his photo exhibit at the Arts and Culture Center of Hollywood (1650 Harrison St., Hollywood), called “The Seconds Pass,” consists of scenes shot entirely from a car window. They span 15 years of daily commutes from his home in Huntington Beach to L.A., cross-country tours of North and South America, and taxi rides from St. Petersburg to Barcelona.

Templeton was one of the artists featured in the “Beautiful Losers” exhibit and documentary film alongside Shepard Fairey and Harmony Korine. In the style of Nan Goldin and Larry Clark, his photographs candidly capture the subculture surrounding him. In this series, he finds the raw narratives in the space between destinations. “The Second Pass” will be up until August 14. The gallery opens at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday and at noon on Sunday. Admission costs $7 for adults and $4 for students and seniors. Call 954-921-3274, or visit artandculturecenter.org.
