Tributes to Blink-182, Linkin Park, and More at the Pit 6/25

The problem with old folks is that they blanket-label all newfangled music without really understanding what's behind it. To anyone over 25, the current all-ages rock scene might look like a hopelessly tangled mess of hair and funny onstage posturing. But, ick, please don't call it the dreaded e-m-o (that's so 2004!). The current postpostpostpostwhatever musical landscape actually represents a number of concurrent musical threads, many of them largely due to the influence of crossover bands from the late '90s and early '00s.

As proof, take On Fire Booking's upcoming Saturday show at the Pit in West Palm, designed as an all-covers gig. Starting in the late afternoon, a series of local bands will, for each of their sets, tackle the work of a band of their choosing. Like Men of War will play songs by Parkway Drive, Truth About Vegas takes on A Simple Plan, False Idols Fall performs Comeback Kid, Of Greetings and Goodbyes covers AFI, the Earth Abides takes on Linkin Park, and Sunset City channels the almighty Blink-182. So there's pop-punk, theatrical rock, searing hardcore, rap-metal, and more — all strains that can be currently picked out in the current local scene.
