Art shows always sound like good ideas, but more often than not, they end up with you standing awkwardly in front of an incomprehensible work of art in a painfully pretentious gallery sipping free wine from a plastic cup. Art is not created in a vacuum and shouldnt be viewed in one either. Every month, Brew Urban Cafe (209 SE Second Ave., Fort Lauderdale) plays host to Dialect, a free art and music event presented by Twilight Notes and Freedom Art. Thursdays event will showcase the artists love of music through works inspired by sound. From 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., lounge in coffee-house comfort and take in the tunes provided by Twilight Notes DJs, Eric Pamphile, and JAMS (Esoteric and Damask) while pondering the works of local artists Joseph Baum, Greg Dubois, Sarah Duggan, Luzalma Gonzalez, Erik Michael K, and Jose E. Lopez. If youre already a Brew or Dialect regular, make sure to come by this month to say farewell to longtime Brew Urban Cafe Manager Stephen Gundlach.
