Have you ever wanted to be one of those art students you see in the movies, sketching a naked model in a room full of people all pretending to be thoughtful and not all impressed with nudity? Have you ever wanted to stick your antennae, as it were, into the erotically charged atmosphere of a room like that? Well, you can almost have your wish. Betty Pickle won't be posing nude in all her resplendent, red-headed beauty when she poses for drawers at Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School -- that would be against some prudish law. But the school's website assures that "models show more than enough pectoralis major and latissimus dorsi." I didn't take anatomy, but that sounds good enough.
And nudity is by no means necessary to make this event fucking awesome. It's open to anyone from world-famous artists -- and they do show up occasionally -- to bumbling amateurs. "We accept all forms of stick people produced in your books as unique forms of interpretative, contemporary art." Plus, there's booze, lots of it, along with contests and prizes. And when she's done with her various poses, Betty Pickle will put on a vaudeville show, which somehow involves this six-foot-tall woman swallowing a five-foot-long balloon. Make sure to bring your own art supplies. The event goes from 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursday at the Stage 84 Music Cafe (9118 W. State Road 84, Davie). Admission costs $10, or $12 at the door.
