Charity for Dummies

Philanthropy is such hard work. You want to be a hero, a Good Samaritan, a saint — not for yourself, of course! No, no. You just have this desperate urge to help people. But, ya know, you’re just, like, so busy and junk. You work almost every day. Plus, ya know, errands. By the time the weekend rolls around, you’d like to do some volunteering, but you’re just burnt out. You deserve a little “you time”! The organizers of the PowerHouse Music Festival understand. Well, they would understand if they weren’t busy actually helping people by organizing a benefit concert showcasing more than a half-dozen local bands, including Lavola, Fourth Dimension, and Luna D’Lunes. The beneficiary of your largesse ($15 for students and $20 for adults) will be Living Promises “Light Up Your Life” campaign. Living Promises assists patients suffering with blood-related cancers. The “Light Up Your Life” program specifically helps by paying a patient’s electric bill for an established period of time. Basically, you rock the night away and a cancer patient can light the night away. The Powerhouse Music Festival is from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Project at Fat Village (541 NW First Ave., Fort Lauderdale). Call 954-217-2444 or 954-401-6497. To learn more about Living Promises or to donate directly to the cause through PayPal, visit livingpromises.org.
Sat., Sept. 10, 3-11 p.m., 2011
