Art Bash, Monster Mash

The Bubble combined the best of several worlds -- Broward County loves zombies nearly as much as it loves showcasing its dominant city's local talent -- and turned it into an inevitably magical event: the Zombie Dance Escapade. Organized by IWAN and local artist Blair Hess, the Zombie Dance Escapade will host a costume contest -- stick to the "things that go bump in the night" theme, and stay scary. Friday, feel generally overwhelmed (in the best possible way) by the spirit of Halloween and homegrown creativity and groove -- "Monster Mash"-style -- to Toothaches, the Shakers, and Dooms De Pop (more TBA). The list of featured artists on display is a dense one: Iron Forge Press, Kara Machowski, Erick Arenas, Rachel DeJohn, and Mo Brenner are a handful on the consistently lengthening list. Rosa Mia Hernandez of Floating Thought Art and the host himself, Hess, will have set up a Red Room -- we're imagining one of the colored rooms of Edgar Allen Poe's The Masque of the Red Death, but we're not sure, and the mystery's the best part. The other best part? In the midst of all the monster madness, the Bubble has managed to stay altruistic: In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, photographer Sue Buzzi will display her work with cancer patients and supporters.
