Hit the Boulevard

The Las Olas Art Fair needs no introduction unless you're a first-time tourist from Canada reading this -- which you're not. Call us out if we're wrong -- we'll see all you Canadians soon enough. Going on for 24 years, the Las Olas Art Fair is just another reason to spend a kick-ass day on Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale (we don't have that many pretty streets down here, but that area... wow). More than 150 artists will be set up on this romantic lane of boutiques and restaurants and darling ice cream stores. You stroll down one side popping into tents, meeting the artists, buying as you go. You can meet Werner Holzbaur, who creates contemporary woodcarvings with a colorful lacquer finish. Seriously, it's wood, but it doesn't look like wood. Maybe he'll tell you his story if you ask for it. This artist was born and raised in Austria. He sailed on a ship in which he built -- all these pretty collectibles you're staring at at the fair -- well, they came from what he saw at sea. There are 150 artists and lots of stories to be told.
