With a birth date some 30 years ago and no breaks, the Toasters can definitely stake a claim as the longest-running American ska band, full stop. British expat Rob "Bucket" Hingley started the band in New York during the same period as the English two-tone ska revival in the late '70s and early '80s. But it was really during the '90s when the Toasters' upbeat, infectious take on the originally Jamaican style really took off, helping to spawn an entire so-called "third wave" of American ska. The Toasters have outlasted most of those younger bands as well as the famous record label, Moon Ska, that Hingley founded to release it all. Even though times have changed, the band keeps going strong. Unsurprisingly, Hingley is the only remaining original member, but the band's energetic live shows still draw packed crowds and feature set lists culled from across its long career.
