America doesn't dress up. America doesn't pose. Oh, maybe here and there -- in certain parts of Miami or in Las Vegas or L.A. Mostly, though, America happens in discrete little moments when it doesn't seem like anyone's watching. That's the country revealed in Artist Unknown: The Free World, an exhibition of found photography at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood (1650 Harrison St., Hollywood), in which artists Oliver Wasow and John D. Mateith will display hundreds of American photographs they've found online, amid the babble of social media. Individually, they might not have meant much -- a self-portrait shot from a truck one afternoon in corn country, a snapshop in a mystery girl's dormitory. Together, Wasow and Mateith hope, they create a portrait as big and weird as the country they're named for. The exhibition runs until January 29. Admission is $4 to $7. Visit artandculturecenter.org.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Nov. 9. Continues through Jan. 29, 2011
