Where's the Puppet Man?

We thought, there is something so cuddly and warm and comforting about puppets when we pondered the notorious tale of Pinocchio -- why would he want to be a real boy? Dark thoughts did then come -- we acknowledged that puppets aren't necessarily the most sane creatures, that they can be mean as all hell. Then we got excited. A rare opportunity has come our way to see puppets. On. A. Rampage. Rarely do we at New Times quote what we read on Facebook -- but "Puppet Rampage... The Slam" at the Arts Garage will be a "late night drunken blitzkrieg of hellbent bunnies and cuddly chainsaws."

Did you know that the Puppet Man works in Fort Lauderdale, inside its all-purpose arts hub, FAT Village? Jim Hammond's Puppet Network creates vibrant, "real" puppets, many of which are used in South Florida's culture-rific establishments. The Puppet Network is teaming up with the World and Eye Arts Center, also located inside FAT Village, to bring these puppets to the Arts Garage (180 NE First St., Delray Beach). There, it's gonna be a puppets' nightmare. It's gonna be a puppet freak show. Miss Piggy, move that prude ass on over -- Saturday, there will be evil clowns, mimes, masks, puppet cabaret acts. Like the fact that there will be a bar. Yeah? There is gonna be a whole lot of "yeahs" being shouted once the puppets get going at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $20 at the door. They are five bucks cheaper at eventbrite.com/event/2343469380/eorg. Visit puppet-network.com/the delraybeacharts.org.
Sat., Nov. 5, 9 p.m., 2011
