Confusing as it may be to those who would write the band off as a late '90s punch line, 311 has survived — even thrived — in the years since breakthrough singles "Down" and company. Sure, there have been moments when the Omaha group enjoyed the kind of Billboard-counted success measured by dollar signs and airplay. But the group came from under the radar and has continued to succeed there, still plying a signature blend of rock and reggae that never goes out of style. Over the past decade or so, 311 has kept its business more grassroots than most indie bands, even headlining its own inaugural festival, the 311 Powwow, in Live Oak, Florida, this past August. Its most recent album, Universal Pulse, marked the tenth for the long-running act.
