12 Days of Torture

The kids are out of school for the holiday break and you might as well admit it -- the little monsters are absolutely torturing you. So before you start returning their gifts and looking into boarding schools, try engaging your precious progeny in an evening of holiday activities that might even rekindle your own loving sentiments. Art After Dark at the Norton Museum of Art (1451 S. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach) takes place every Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. This week's event will be built around "A Christmas Story," probably the most sarcastic, unsentimental Christmas movie ever to tug at your heartstrings. Park the kids in front of the House of Flying Cards Magicians while you enjoy some refreshments and interact with other adult humans on a tour of the latest exhibit, "Elements of Design." You'll be filled with the warm memories of ruined Christmas dinners and angry dads yelling at the kids to shut up and get to bed while your own children decorate cookies and generally run around working off excess energy so maybe you can get some peace. By the time you're ready to leave, your little angels will sleep in the car all the way home. For more information, call 561-832-5196 or visit norton.org. Admission is free for museum members and children under 13, $12 for adults, and $5 for students with ID.
Thu., Dec. 22, 5 p.m., 2011
