As you know, we're writers here, so this quote from John Waters hits rather close to home: "We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody and they don't have books, don't fuck them." Hear, hear! You fine folk will read blogs all day long, but a novel? Many don't know even what that is. And you gotta think it's the same way for artists. If all the herds of ink we spot around South Florida are any indication, it's got to be easier to sell artwork on the skin than art for the wall. But your tattoo artists are artists foremost. They are brilliant painters. Did you forget about that? This week's dark-dance night at the Green Room, Black Fridays, will honor some of our topnotch tattoo artists by giving them its walls. Both floors of the Green Room will be filled with paintings and photography. We got the Lake Worth talents of Altered State Tattoo, Scott White and Pooch, and Gwen Gersich from Fort Lauderdale's Formula Ink, as well as Sole del Real of Delray's Black Rose Tattoo Shop. As always, DJs LinderSMASH and Kaos will spin the goth and industrial tunes, and tonight, DJ Klov will be the special guest DJ. Doors open at 10 p.m. for Black Fridays at the Green Room (100 SW Third Ave., Fort Lauderdale). You must be at least 21. No cover. "Like" Green Room on Facebook for more info.
