Walk the Neighborhood, Explore Many Worlds

The monthly FAT Village Art Walk (521 NW First Ave., Fort Lauderdale) is not only an occasion to explore what's happening in the South Florida art world but, through the artwork, to explore worlds beyond. As you stroll the neighborhood popping into gallery after gallery, each a microworld in and of itself, the variety of works you meet will send you contemplating in myriad directions. This month, one strong show will send you southward to our neighbor, Haiti. "The Silent Call From Haiti" will feature the work of nine artists in various media that passionately reflects the rich culture, strong spirit, and painful struggle of the Haitian people. Among the presenting artists are Kristo Nicolas, who works in acrylic and sand to depict the mysterious energies of voodoo, and Carl Craig, whose stunning oil paintings focus on the people themselves, revealing inner and outer beauty. Also of interest to many will be a special invited guest: the Honorable Gérard Latortue, ex-prime minister of Haiti.

In addition to this show and several others, this month's Art Walk will include live entertainment geared toward bringing all in attendance into touch with our interconnectedness, with the people in our everyday world and those beyond. The 5th Element Healing Drum Circle will be lead by Kavayah Amh, and Miami's Free Like Me will deliver "Funconscious" and world acoustic sounds. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is free to attend.
