Does This Music Stink, or Is It the Garlic?

When folks in the crowd at an Uncle Kracker show tear up, usually it is for one of two reasons: Either they are powerfully moved by the Top 40 troubadour’s rap-rock-country songs or they are weeping at the tragedy of a musician that corny and bad being so popular on a national level. At Garlic Fest at Old School Square (SE Fifth Ave., Delray Beach), there will be the third reason: It’s a very likely possibility that the flowing tears are inspired not by the music but by the sensory-arresting presence of garlic.

Indeed, the garlic will be out in force at the 13th-annual event in more forms than Uncle Kracker has songs about sitting on a porch (or whatever). Among the must-taste selections available on “Gourmet Alley” will be standards like garlic bread, whole roasted garlic, and gourmet roasted garlic pizza; more adventurous items like garlic spinach and artichoke-stuffed portobello mushrooms; and downright weird choices like garlic ice cream. Yes, just the thought of that last one may be enough to make you cry (or did an Uncle Kracker song just come on the radio?). In addition to Uncle Kracker and a long list of garlic-driven dishes, the fest will feature a kids’ zone, a wine garden, chef competitions, and further entertainment from the likes of the Fabulous Fleetwoods, G Love & Special Sauce, Journey and Bon Jovi tribute bands, and more. The event starts at 4 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission costs $10. Call 561-279-0907, or visit dbgarlicfest.com.
